• Experiences of Reenactors - (A compendium of information from discussions on the 12th Century Garb Yahoo Group list) " I don't have my own special theory on construction [of the bloat]. I have noticed, however, that when you wrap the ubiquitous girdle around twice the dress does tend to ruck up in the abdomen area (at least mine, sans lacings, does) That's about the extent of my personal epiphany." ~ Galiana de Baiona/Amanda BowenMessage #36, May 21, 2002 "My ones with back lacings do a bit too if you tie the double girdle tightly. I want to try side lacings next and see what…

  • Prepping for Winter Coronet in Oertha, January 2003 - … the only material that I can find to make a surcote with is only 3 and some yards long; thus the question about fur tops. Since that doesn't look to be period for me, that's out. Katrine, if that's enough to make the cote you mentioned, that would be lovely. I'm interested in, but I'm not sure I understand what is meant by, the "shoulderless" surcoate someone else mentioned, though. I'm the type of person that needs lots of pretty pictures drawn for me~ Rachael Message #728, January 16, 2003 45" wide or 60" wide? Is there a nap…
  • Wearing Daggers - Q:  If you are wearing a nice dress (something that would look good at court) how do you wear a dagger? I feel naked without some steel, but it seems to clash with the dresses my friends have been making me lately. A:  I don't know that there's any evidence for ladies wearing daggers in period.  I certainly don't recall ever seeing any. That would be why they clash. I think that is far more of a RenFaire thing; certainly I wore one when I was doing that, and for a while after I got in the SCA, but I…
  • Linen Weights/Yard - Q:  Anyone worked with the 5.3/5.4 ounce stuff (prewashed) from www.fabrics-store.com?  Hello- I've been lurking for awhile. Let me introduce myself, I'm Astridr mka Kim. I've bought fabric from them before and I've been very happy with what I've gotten. I haven't done too much with any of it yet though. It's on the fabric pile *sheepish grin* I do want to mention that they will send small color swatches of the cloth, which is great. the colours in life vs. on the monitor can very greatly. ~ Astridr / Kim Sward Message #939, March 21, 2003
