12th Century Italian Resources

I had the opportunity to visit my friend Mistress Katheryn Hindscroft last night, and found a couple of books those of you doing Italian might be interested in. Kat has a library to die for….

The first was a spectacular 6 volume series called Storia del Costume in Italia by R. Levi Pietsky, 1964, Instituto Italiano. (the set costs about my 10 year budget for books). You will want to look at volume 1 for 12th century information. It has the only photograph I have seen of the entire purple dalmatic from the HRE coronation clothing. I put it on ILL immediately!

Nancy, you might like “The Mosaics of Norman Sicily” by Otto Demus, Hacker Art Books, 1988, ISBN 0-87817-310-2. It has a nice selection of art that I hadn’t seen before, and you might find
something of interest.
